Ellesmere Port Collective is proud to announce the opening of a new creative community space at Theatre Porto in Whitby Park, creating a new home for workshops, outreach programmes and creative activity within the town.
The space has been made possible thanks to an incredible collaboration between Liberty, ForHousing and Cheshire West and Chester Council, who worked together to transform an unused loft area within Theatre Porto into a fully functional multi-purpose room for the collective.
As part of the project, Liberty’s local repairs and maintenance team volunteered their time to completely renovate the space, re-plastering walls, levelling the floor and laying new vinyl flooring. Staff from ForHousing also contributed over 40 hours of volunteering to paint and complete the final touches.
For Ellesmere Port Collective, the new space represents an important step forward in developing long-term community projects and creating more opportunities for local people to get involved in music, creativity and culture.
The collective will now be able to expand its workshop programme and provide young people and adults with greater access to studio equipment, creative sessions and community-led activities.
What began as a grassroots collective of local people coming together through a shared passion for music, culture and community has continued to grow over recent years through independent events and collaborations across Ellesmere Port.
Having a permanent base within Theatre Porto now provides the group with the opportunity to build on that momentum and create an even bigger positive impact within the town.
Ross Couper from Ellesmere Port Collective said:
“The work completed by Liberty has enabled us to create a home at Theatre Porto which will allow us to develop our community activities and create new outreach programmes for the future.
“We are forever grateful to the team and look forward to welcoming them back to see the positive impact they have made for Ellesmere Port.”
Sam Hutchinson, Communications Manager at Theatre Porto, said: “Through collaboration and community spirit, the new space created at Theatre Porto will serve as a hub for creativity and positive impact.
“Thanks to the partnership between Liberty, ForHousing and Cheshire West and Chester Council, the Ellesmere Port Collective now has a multi-functional room where they can support young people and adults to unlock their musical talents. This is a testament to the power of working together to make a difference in our local communities. We can’t wait to hear what they create.”
Dan Carey, Site Manager at Liberty, said: “Working with Theatre Porto was an enjoyable and interesting project as the local community can really benefit from a space like this. The charity and the theatre were very happy with our work and have asked us to work within the grounds of the theatre going forward.”
